Mercedes says its new 140cm “Hyperscreen” is like a movie theater in a car

STUTTGART – There are a few fairly large infotainment screens, but they will all soon be dismantled by the new “Hyperscreen MBUX” that Mercedes-Benz has just unveiled.

The massive 141 cm pole-to-pole infotainment display will debut in the electric EQS ​​pilot sedan at the end of 2021.

Its large, curved panel extends almost the entire width of the interior, from left to right, pillar A.

In the new unit, several displays appear to blend seamlessly, resulting in a curved screen strip, while analog air holes are integrated into this large digital surface to connect the digital and physical world.

Artificial intelligence (AI) and learning software allow the control and display concept to adapt to its user and make personalized suggestions for a variety of functions, from infotainment to comfort and even vehicle functions.

“We combine technology with design in a fascinating way that gives customers unprecedented ease of use. We love the simplicity we have created with a new level of MBUX,” said Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer, Daimler Group.

With the new zero-layer feature, the user no longer has to scroll through submenus or give voice commands, as the most important applications are always available in a situational and contextual way at the top of the driver’s field of vision. This eases the driver from the need to take numerous operating steps, the carmaker said.

“The MBUX hyperscreen not only benefits the driver, but is also an attentive assistant for the front passenger, who has his own screen and operating area.”

The “MBUX hyperscreen” is surrounded by a continuous plastic front frame. The passenger display allows individualized content with up to seven profiles.

“However, the entertainment features of the passenger display are only available while traveling under country-specific legal regulations,” the company said.

If the passenger seat is not occupied, the screen becomes a digital decorative part.

OLED technology is used for the center and front passenger displays, providing a particularly bright image.

“The MBUX hyperscreen is both the brain and the nervous system of the car,” said Sajjad Khan, a board member of Mercedes-Benz AG and CTO.
