The Homeworld study is doing its job on Mars

To celebrate the successful landing of the InSight spacecraft on the red planet, Blackbird Interactive (now responsible for Homeworld) and the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory have published a version of them The Eagle Project Software based on Mars.

I wrote about this in 2017; while not game, is still an extremely game program that serves as an interactive model of a realistic colony on Mars.

Described as "a tool that allows users to explore and learn about a prospective future Mars colony," the basis is "based on real possibilities, knowledgeable by real science with direct guidance and feedback from NASA scientists and JPL on technological and material constraints for building a human dwelling on the red planet. "

This realism extends to the topography around the base because it uses land data taken from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.

The Eagle Project is out now on Steam.
