Energy consumption decreased by 3.4% over the same period last year


Electricity demand decreased by 3.4% compared to the end of October, the lowest level for this month in 2012, yesterday announced the Foundation for Electric Development (Fundelec).

In the same sense, the consumption of Federal Capital and Suburbs in Buenos Aires recorded a significant decrease in Edessur (-3.1%) and Edenor (-4%), while the rest of the country registered the same trend: -3 , 3%, according to provisional data from the Electricity Market Administration Company, Cammesa.

Fundelec explained that demand declined among residential, commercial and industrial users across the country: October was the second-lowest consumer of the year and the lowest level for this month in 2012 in nominal terms.

Thus, after a quarter (June, July and August), with an increase of 5.8% compared to the previous year, the most pronounced bi-monthly decline (September-October) of the year was recorded as a percentage % In the first ten months of 2018, demand grew by 1.6% over the same period in 2017.

In October 2018, the total net demand for the wholesale electricity market (MEM) was 9,875.1 GWh; with an annual decrease of 3.4%; however, it was an increase of 1% compared to September 2018.

Of total consumption in October, 40% (3,928.8 GWh) belonged to residential demand, while the commercial sector represented 29% (2920.4 GWh) and the industrial sector 31% (3,025.9 GWh).

Also, year-on-year comparison, residential demand fell by -1.3%, while commercial demand fell by -4% and industrial demand fell even further: -5.7% .

Even so, after ten months of the year, electricity demand grew by 1.6%.

In terms of country consumption, provinces and companies registered decreases on October 18: Catamarca (-46%), San Luis (-12%), San Juan (-11%), Chubut (-7%)) , Jujuy (-7%), La Rioja (-7%), Tucumán (-6%), Córdoba (-5%), Eden (-4% -2%), La Pampa (-1%), Mendoza (-1%), among others.

In turn, there were 7 promotions in the electrical requirements of MEM in Chaco (9%), Santa Cruz (9%), Corrientes (3%), Formosa (3%), Misiones (3% 1%), among others.

Meanwhile, Río Negro and Salta have maintained their consumption levels compared to each year, Fundelec explained.

He also pointed out that the average temperature in October was 17.8 ° C, while in the same month of the previous year it was 18.2 ° C and the historic one of 17.3 ° C

In this context, the local generation registered a decrease compared to October 2017, being 10,371 GWh this month compared to 10,587 GWh in the same period of the previous year. As in recent months, the import share was low when it reached demand: 25 GWh were imported until October 2018, compared to 13 GWh imported in October 2017.
