This test is best known for checking chromosomal problems, such as Down Syndrome.
Louvain researchers carried out a blood test in 1,002 patients aged 65 and began testing for possible tumors in the genetic material. Hodgkin's disease was discovered in five people. A sixth patient had warning signs of blood cancer.
The fact that the test highlights patients with Hodgkin's disease demonstrates the new possibilities offered by the test. The originality of the study is to allow the discovery of the disease just before the onset of the symptoms. Additional research should consider whether the test can be performed on a large scale.
