Three policemen caught for a series of bribes in Ruse IMAGES

During a joint operation by the Ruse District Prosecutor’s Office and the Internal Security Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior, police officers were detained in preventive proceedings for corruption offenses.

Three employees of the Ministry of Interior were brought to criminal charge for taking bribes for up to 72 hours.

On 06.01.2021 against 7.01.2021 on the Silistra-Ruse road in the area of ​​Slivo Pole, two police officers from RU-Slivo Pole from OD of the Ministry of Interior-Ruse carried out the road control. During the inspection, they found a car driver’s violation of the Road Traffic Act (RTA), but instead of drawing up a deed for him to pay a fine in favor of the state, they demanded the amount of 30 BGN, which a they kept it to themselves.


Immediately after receiving the requested bribe, the police were detained. During a personal search, the amount was found in the uniform of one of them.

The Ruse District Prosecutor’s Office and the Internal Security Directorate of the Ministry of Interior have been monitoring police officers for more than five months. During the investigation, numerous cases of bribery received from car controllers at RU-Slivo Pole were identified and documented. While on duty, they took bribes from drivers who were stopped for inspection.

Three police officers have been charged with offenses under Article 302 (1) in conjunction with Article 301 (1) of the Criminal Code.

The three accused were detained by a decree of a prosecutor from the Ruse District Prosecutor’s Office for up to 72 hours and are in custody in Ruse.

In one day – on 01.01.2021, a total of 10 searches and seizures were carried out at addresses in Ruse and other settlements, as well as personal searches of people. Numerous witnesses were heard, including before a judge of the Russian Court. Expert examinations were prepared and numerous written proofs were attached to the case.

The investigation is led by a team of investigators from the Regional Investigation Department of the Ruse District Prosecutor’s Office and is monitored by a team of prosecutors from the Ruse Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

Several witnesses must be questioned and experts appointed. The prosecutor’s office will submit to the court a request for the imposition of a permanent measure of detention “detention in custody” of the three accused.

For the offense provided in art. 302, point 1, corroborated with art. 301, para. 1 of the Criminal Code provides for imprisonment from 3 to 10 years, a fine – up to 20 thousand BGN, deprivation of the right to hold a certain public and state office and to exercise a certain profession or activity.
