Hogan and Okerlund are synonymous with each other because of Okerlund's key role in WWF in the 1980s and Hogan's "Let Me Tell Me Mean Gene" during some of his most famous promos. Hogan paid tribute to Okerlund after his passage by posting the following comments Twitter:
The best partner I've ever had. I have never repeated and did nothing from the writer. Gene will ask me: "Hey, great, what do you want to do?" I would always have answered "I follow the brother" and worked between 1980 and 2017. RIP my brother HH
Hogan last appeared on WWE TV at WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia in November. Monday evening will mark the first time he appeared on RAW in March 2015.
WWE.com has posted the following ad that promotes Hogan's return:
– Let me tell you something, Gene means …
So they started many of Hulk Hogan's most memorable proclamations, making the interview and personality backstage "Mean" Gene Okerlund, a cornerstone of Hulkamania in the 1980s. Now, following Okerlund's recent pass, Hogan returns to WWE's programming this Monday morning at Raw to honor his old friend.
In an article posted on Twitter Tuesday evening, Hogan called Gene "Mean" Gene "the best partner I ever had," while describing their incredible chemistry during backstage interviews. This synchronicity even led to an unusual partnership with the label team when Hogan and Okerlund fought George "The Animal" Steele and Fuji in 1984. Their training sessions before that match, which can be seen below, have it was maybe even more fun than fighting.
Hogan's and Okerlund's friendship has taken decades, from WWE to WCW and back to the WWE. On Monday night, Hogan honors his brother.
Do not miss this reference point at Monday Night Raw, starting with 8/7 C in the US Network.
