On November 1, 2018, USS John P. Murtha recovered the test version of the Orion capsule at sunset in the Pacific Ocean.
The ongoing Recovery Test 7 (URT-7) is one of a series of tests that the exploration team recovery team, together with the US Navy, performs to validate the procedures and hardware that will be used to recover the Orion spacecraft splashes after deep space exploration missions.
Orion will have the ability to support the crew while traveling in space, to ensure safe re-entry from the speed of return of the deep space and to stop urging.
