The 179-year-old exoplaner from us has water in the atmosphere

Seeing the planets outside our solar system is impossible for our telescopes because the light of the host stars of these worlds gathers their shine. However, astronomers can detect the exoplanet and even study their composition and atmosphere. According to a new study centered on a 179-year-old planet, scientists have discovered that the so-called exoplanet HR 8799 C has water in the atmosphere.

HR 8799 C orbits Star HR 8799 together with three other planets called HR 8799 B, D, and E. However, HR 8799 C is the most interesting of these four exoplanets because it is a seven gas giant or greater than Jupiter, the largest planet of our solar system.

Also, this exoplanet, at 179 light-years away, has water in the atmosphere. The finding was made by astronomers using the Keck Observatory and the latest technologies in the exoplanet's observations. Thanks to this advanced telescope, scientists have managed to come up with a new analysis of HR 8799 C, originally discovered in 2008.

"This kind of technology [Keck Observatory] is exactly what we want to use in the future to look for signs of life on a planet like Earth. We are not there yet, but we are going forward, "said Dimitri Mawet, professor of astronomy at Caltech and a JPL scientist, and co-author of the new study.

"Now, with Keck, we can already learn about the physics and dynamics of these giant exotic planets that are nothing like the planets of our planet," said Ji Wang, lead author of the research.

Regarding the HR 8799 C exoplanet, Wang added that scientists "are now more confident about the lack of methane on this planet." This may be due to the mixing of the atmosphere of the planet, the methane that we would expect to find surface, could be diluted if the convection process brings deeper layers of the planet that do not have methane. "

According to the study, this exoplanet, 179 light years away from us, has water present in the atmosphere. However, this world is not habitable.
