SEVILLE, 8 (EUROPA PRESS)

The Virgen Macarena University Hospital in Seville won the first and second prize recently awarded by the Spanish Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the category “Best papers presented by resident inpatients”.

The recognition, offered at the 58th Congress of the society mentioned above, highlights the quality and innovation of the health proposals documented by the resident doctors of the Sevillian center, according to the hospital in a statement.

The first prize was obtained through the paper entitled “Use of the Heckmmatt scale as a diagnostic and therapeutic measure of spasticity in children with cerebral palsy” prepared by members of the Children’s Rehabilitation Unit in the hospital enclave. In this regard, it is postulated that the use of this ultrasound technique is an effective method of measurement that improves decision-making in pediatric patients with this pathology and also allows the elucidation of clinical evolution factors.

Specifically, this study concludes that the use of the Heckmatt scale is a useful diagnostic and therapeutic measure to know in children the muscle structure and the degree of fibrosis in neuromuscular diseases, such as cerebral palsy.

On the other hand, the paper “The effectiveness of the combination of corticosteroid with the anesthetic in the suprascapular nerve block” prepared by the components of the Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Unit of Macarena Hospital, was recognized with the second prize. In this case, the study deepened the prolongation of the anesthetic effects involved in the application of corticosteroid to topical anesthetics in the blockage of one of the most important nerves in the shoulder joint. Nerve block is a technique that helps control pain by using radio frequency.
