More than 27.85 lakh children received measles vaccine (MR) during an ongoing vaccination campaign in Jammu and Kashmir, an official spokesman said on Saturday. The campaign was launched on 24 September to cover nearly 38 lakh children from nine months to 15 years of age to eliminate congenital rubella syndrome caused by the rubella virus.
"There will be 37,72,960 children in the state, of whom 27,85,731 have been vaccinated so far with 17,00994 children from the Kashmir division and 10,84,737 in the Jammu Division," the spokesman said.
The campaign is expected to be completed by the end of this month against the deadline set on October 20th. The rubella measles campaign marks the introduction of the rubella vaccine in India's immunization program for the first time.
