Almost a month after the initial release announcement, Microsoft was able to download Windows again October 10, 2018 – this update was canceled almost immediately after the first attempt to distribute it because an error occurred that some users lost their data.
Windows 10 is automatically saved
Typically, Windows functional updates are staggered, automatically delivering new downloads for specific periods of time, which will not be the exception for the moment. First, the proposal to install a new system version will receive two groups of people: those who manually seek updates and those who use the special media creation tool to implement the new system. If these users do not run new errors, Windows 10 will be available to other users in the coming weeks.
Interestingly, Microsoft's official attempt to improve systems is judged to be generally inappropriate, and the launch date for the new version is November 13th. This is important for the "support windows" operating system. The day-to-day support started with Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 1809.
Because of the inconvenience that some enthusiastic users have made to Windows 10 update, Microsoft will tighten the software testing and development process. A data loss error occurred before the official update was launched by a Windows Insider user, but for unknown reasons, Microsoft did not consider these complaints sufficiently serious: Microsoft's response was limited to a new feature – marked by its level of importance. For example, an error that leads to data loss is undoubtedly more important than a kind of ugly icon or inappropriately aligned text. However, it is still difficult to say how sorting will enhance the quality and efficiency of error reports.
What will Microsoft change?
As for a slightly longer operating period, Microsoft has pledged more openness to launching the Windows 10 development and testing process, and in the next few months you can expect to learn more about how operating system manufacturers are changing attitude and processes. The quality of Microsoft software is already evaluated at several different levels and in several different sizes. For example, when users started to complain after the OS update was released, an "initial quality error" was recorded regarding the stability and reliability of the new functional update. Detecting this type of error means that experts with operating system experience have done something wrong. On Tuesday, there have been a series of updates to improve IT security and "long-term quality" issues – the reliability and efficiency of weekly updates.
Although Microsoft explicitly recognizes the most recent update issue, the company officially evaluates the operating system trajectory. The company's directors are mainly based on some of the indicators used to evaluate the operating system's satisfaction. The first is the "frequency of the incident" or the number of complaints received from users after each system update. For the lifetime of Windows 10, this indicator has steadily declined. This means that Microsoft is doing well. However, incidents can be misleading. The Windows 10 error with a large number of users is a cosmetic mistake that produces more messages than a more serious incident – such as data loss – which only a small number of users encounter, although the last type of incident is without doubt, more important.
Another indicator is "net promoter score" or an estimate of how users would be willing to recommend each version of Windows 10 to their friends and family. The company's representatives believe this indicator is on the rise, and the spring version of Windows 10 has received the best estimate of all time. However, this indicator may not present serious problems encountered by a small number of users.
The Windows user base is huge and complex – 700 million. consumers, 35 mln. gadgets 175 mln. different versions, 16 million unique drivers and hardware combinations – so the probability of a particular problem specific to a particular configuration that occurs one or the other is enormous. Data loss was related to only one of the following configurations: it did not affect Windows users who used the standard configuration but damaged those who chose certain atypical settings.
