KUALA LUMPUR: The government will not set a ceiling price for the sale of special vehicle registration numbers, Dewan Rakyat said today.
Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook said the sale of these registration numbers could bring revenue to the government.
He gave the example of the series of registration numbers "MALAYSIA", introduced in August, which won 13 million RM.
"The registration number" MALAYSIA 1 "generated only RM1,111,111," he said in the answer of Maulawu Sulaiman (Warisan-Kalabakan), who asked if he had imposed a cap price for the sale of such license plates.
Loke also reiterated that no special registration numbers will be given to NGOs or individuals and that they will only be issued by the Department of Road and Government Transport.
"Previously, the government allowed NGOs and individuals to pay RM1 million to the government when they asked for special registration numbers.
"However, a number of numbers can earn the RM10 million government, so this would make the government lose RM9 million," he said.
