Technological producer Samsung on Wednesday showed a foldable screen for their smartphones that once opened can become a tablet, although the South Korean brand did not advance the marketing date of this technology.
"When it's open, it's a tablet with a large screen, and when it's closed, it's a phone that fits perfectly in your pocket," explained Dustin Denison, one of the company's managers at a prototype presentation at a San Francisco conference. , United States.
Samsung "is close to the mass production" of this new screen type, called "Infinity Flex Display", "in the coming months," Denison continued, who said the device was developed to be "folded and deployed repeatedly ".
"The screen sets the ground for tomorrow's smartphone," he said. But the group, which produces both devices and components, has not announced the devices that will have this screen foldable.
In fact, for a device with this technology to work, it needs an optimized operating system and application.
Samsung and Google, which jointly created the Android-powered Android device from the South Korean company, announced on Wednesday that it has already started collaborating to optimize its operating system for these future devices.
The South Korean brand also invited other developers to design applications to change their products to be compatible with devices that have a future screen type.
finally, Samsung, the world leader in smartphone sales, on Wednesday presented a new user interface called "One UI", available from next year on the Galaxy S9 and Note 9, which makes it easy to use and, above all, is optimized for phones which mounts the foldable screen in the future.
The foldable screen is considered the biggest breakthrough in the smartphone industry, looking forward to a revolutionary technology that will give the market a second impetus, more than a decade after the arrival of the iPhone.
According to specialized media, other producers, especially LG South Korean and Huawei Chinese, are working on this technology.
