David Schwimmer's control, after the public appeal became viral – 14-Nov-2018

British authorities say they arrested David Schwimmer, whose photo became viral after being posted last month on a Facebook police page.

The Blackpool police said a 36-year-old man was arrested in West London on Monday night about suspicion of theft.

They said he was the suspect accused of beer theft at a seaside restaurant in northern England in September.

After the theft was reported, the police took Facebook to appeal to the public for help in identifying humans, including a photo taken from CCTV material.

The post, which has been removed since then, has attracted unprecedented attention after it was emphasized that the suspect had a striking resemblance to Schwimmer, best known for his role as Ross Gellar on Friends.

He received more than 120,000 comments, most of which included references to the popular sitcom in the '90s.

The post was divided by more than 65,000 times, eventually reaching Schwimmer, who also received a joke.

The 52-year-old actor spied on the alleged robbery at a New York store, which was watched over 9 million times.

Finally, the public call was successful for Blackpool police, who continued the joke while confirming the Twitter arrest.

"After the call I posted on looking for a man like a well-known actor, we now have an update," the force said in a tweet.

"Thanks to our colleagues @ MetPoliceUK, a 36-year-old man was arrested in Southall last night on suspicion of theft.

"Thank you for @DavidSchwimmer support!"

The Metropolitan Police said she was happy to help by signing on her tweets with the hash tag, referring to the The Rembrandts theme song "Friends".
