Following the success of the Dakar 2018, SsangYong presented the strongest argument to face the second consecutive Dakar participation: Rexton DKR. Ten years after the first South American edition, this Dakar 2019 will take place between January 6th and January 17th, 2019, exclusively in the Peruvian territories, with a route that will begin and end in Lima. During the ten planned stages, the participants will have to cover a total of approximately five thousand kilometers, of which 70% will pass through sand and dunes, including three thousand kilometers of programmed sections.
The new Rexton DKR blends the concept elegantly buggy with the muscular design features of the flagship company of the Korean company around the world. The objective for the 2019 edition was to strengthen the car's reliability in the elements subject to greater weariness during this Dakar and to build a more reliable, fast and easy vehicle.
The Rexton DKR has traction on the rear wheels. The DKR uses a V8 engine with a central longitudinal system that offers 450 hp. The vehicle is approximately 1.900 kg. and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.4 seconds, reaching a maximum of 195 km / h. The body, inspired by the image of the new Rexton, is lighter than the previous car, offers a more great attack and has a lower front surface, improving aerodynamics.
The transmission, meanwhile, is completely new. It's a sequential six-speed Sadev box. Uses a ceramic AP tridisk clutch that supports torque up to 1,500 Nm.
Tires in the meantime are Yokohama Geolandar M / T G003 37X12.50R17, which offers high resistance, traction and absorption capacity in the most difficult terrain. They are mounted on 17 "Raceline alloy wheels with" Beadlock ", which allow for easier displacement of wheel pressure to overcome dunes through the autoflusive system of the co-driver cockpit.
For the dampers, the Rexton DKR also has a double helical and expansion compensating King brand system coupled with two-compression adjustable telescopic shock absorbers and an extension whose tuning has been conveniently adapted to the new car features after good performance the 2018 edition. In the brake section, Rexton has a 30% higher friction surface, also improving the heat dissipation to the Tivoli DKR, which translates into a higher fatigue strength.
