Sherwin Ray Nuguit managed to win his first 12-year title in the first stage of the age group events at PCA Open, sculpting a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Gerald Gimeda from Ormoc City at the courts Tennis Plaza in Columbia in Plaza Dilao.

Nuguit, the 10-year-old under-unisex champion last year, advanced into the final round after defeating Joshua Diva 6-3, 6-0 in the semi-finals. Gimeda, on the other hand, raised a lot of angry when he defeated the top Jr Costa, 6-4, 6-2.

The Nuguit, which looked stones and determination, shone through the first set. The same determination was also shown in the second set, rallying from a deficit of 1-4 at the score.

In the girls' division, the national team member Mika Ella Emana of Sta. Mesa teammate teammate and second Angeline Alcala seed in Lucena to fry their 12 and under plums, 6-4, 6-2.

The PCA Open Age Group event will be resumed between November 23-26 for the 14, 16, 18, and 18-year events at Columbia's tennis courts in Plaza Dilao.
