All these are hypothetical questions with a subtle virtual tone until you are behind the wheel of a civilian car, but under the hood of the predator, which we have been given the chance to tame and control.

The SEAT brand in Spain has long been a sporting profile. Models called Cupra were and are really "cut" sports. What can you do to make the most of the sporting brand and enjoy the experience with sports cars and racing specials? In the SEATs they decided on a new brand called CUPRA. The first "civilian" model is Ateca. The car of the most popular SUV category. Also, the brand was prepared by e_Racer, an electric motor with a power of 500 kW (680 hp), but it is another league and we are not interested in trying an Atecu.7

The high-performance SUV symbolizes the beginning of a new era and is also the right vehicle for CUPRA's entry into the market. It has become a rule that premium car brands dominate this segment of cars. But the introduction of CUPRA Ateca has disturbed previous habits. It has brought people's attention from the ordinary, conventional and regular vision to the current vision of sport, but which does not need luxury to create a sense of uniqueness.

I realized that even before I could stand behind the wheel of a powerful SUV that hides a herd of 300 horses under the hood. The power of 221 kW is a good load to test the determination, capacity and driving ability of everyone behind the steering wheel.

At first glance it's a fairly normal car. But just under the "ordinary" cover is the task of uniqueness. CUPRA Ateca has a remarkable exterior design, stylish interior and high performance. This combination is a great investment in car capabilities. Under the hood of the CUPRA, the Ateca is one of the most technologically advanced engines on the market – a 2.0-liter 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that achieves a remarkable output of 221 kW (300 hp ) and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. Combined with the 7-speed dual-clutch DSG gearbox and the all-wheel drive system, the 4Drive offers the CUPRA Ateca outstanding performance and sporting performance.

That's at least the materials we have at our disposal. Of course, it has tightened our taste just to try what the car can really do. The surrounding area of ​​Barcelona is unique for various test trips. There are a number of fast, fast sections, but also a complete turn that can not only be handled. The other parts of the body will come in on their own, depending on the intensity you mix with body fluids and the contents of some organs.

The first part led through dirty and twisted serpentines. The beauty mistakes were that a pair of buses slowed us for a moment, moving slowly and slowly forward in the twists and turns of the territory. But it did not take long, stopped and then came the right righteous riding!

When you see CUPRA Ateca in front of you, you will understand the amazing rhythm of flamenco on the narrow and inclined path and gas and break at a rapid pace like chestnuts. Why, for whom and why the CUPRA was created. I already know who's destined. For passionate enthusiasts. For sports and determined drivers, enthusiasts with adrenaline, dynamics and a great sense of power under the hood.

We have all experienced this, and we have had the opportunity to experience the first tens of kilometers. The relatively narrow and bent paths not only verified the character of the car, but also the drivers. Many sections were literally "heart" and less experienced pilots had a faster place. However – the dynamics of the car is very good. Almost unbelievable for a car that weighs ready to travel on a pair of passengers around 1700 kg. The empty weight is 1540 kilos.

This impressive power of 221 kW (300 hp) ranges from 5,300 to 6,500 rpm and an impressive maximum torque of 400 Nm. It is available in a wide range of speeds from 2000 to 5200 per minute. This power potential allows CUPRA Ateca to reach a maximum speed of 247 km / h and acceleration from zero to 100 km / h in 5.2 seconds. The new twin clutch seven-speed DSG transmission also contributes to this exceptional acceleration. Allows a faster, more accurate and slimmer reduction than the 6-speed manual gearbox.

I felt like I tried the car properly and we were wearing a dam … But I did not really know what was waiting for us. After a brief break and briefing, we chose a relatively short road circuit, excluding any traffic. The path, which stretches on both sides with consoles both in descent and in height, with mild and even sharp twists, an almost ideal but also quite broken surface symbolizes everything we could try: acceleration, maneuverability, braking efficiency and mechanical adhesion,. CUPRA ATHENA has an independent suspension on all wheels on the McPherson bars and on the multi-link rear hinges as a starting model. However, the equipment is supplemented with DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control) with characteristic electronic control. The driver can change the chassis setting as needed in several ways: Normal, Sport, Individual, Snow, Off-Road and naturally CUPRA. In CUPRA mode, in addition to engine features, the exhaust system and DCC Adaptive damping sound system are adjusted for maximum driving dynamics. By adjusting individual modes, the character of the entire car will always change. We were very interested in this sport and, of course, the CUPRA.

In Barcelona, ​​this period of opportunity was not added to the room by the horsemen, but the organizers did not make any wrinkles. After the first round, you want to try more, then again and again … Thanks to a four-way exhaust system, the sound of the engine matches driving performance and emphasizes the journey drama.

The climax was the start of this road speed test using the CUPRA automatic launching technology for maximum acceleration with solid start. What I'm going to tell you, sitting first on the passenger seat – I felt like I would break my head! The feeling of slinging stone – this is the best thing with the acceleration that CUPRA Ateca has managed to show. After a change of the seat behind the left, there is focus – the left foot of the brake, the right speed of over 4000 per minute and the start! The car literally "sank" on the rear wheels and pulled forward. The acceleration value reported by the manufacturer at the 5-second limit from zero to one is not just the manufacturer's paper marketing but the real value! We've always gotten under 5.5-6 seconds, then we started a little on the hill and we started to grow up. "Dragon, Muscle, Beast" – you understand your head and just say – great! An experience that will take several hours. If not, I would not believe.

Another glance: Brakes. For high performance, engineers changed the braking system. The sports SUVs have brakes more than 340 mm in front and 310 mm in the rear, increasing the efficiency of the brakes. Upon request, a performance package with Brembo brakes is equipped with discs with a diameter of 370 mm and black stops.

Later, we return "on the base". At the hotel where we are waiting for a rest and then go to the product presentation of the model. There is much to explain, to be justified. Why, now, what entry model and what it is about. I understand that during the trip. I see that the SEAT brand and CUPRA expect this first model to attract new customers looking for a unique car between the mass segment and the premium class segment. Nor do I look for enthusiasm and expectations. CUPRA Ateca has the following – to engage, to mix books, to attract attention and to ask buyers.

Perhaps this option does not last long, the ever-stringent emissions regulations print incredibly and inexpensively down the CO₂ values, as well as consumption and, of course, power. Well, while there is a chance, you have to choose a superman in which the inexperienced motorist's heart is over.

Beware, CUPRA Ateca is addicted, but not to everyone! The combination of the sporty chassis and the progressive steering ensures the car's superb handling. Despite the unity on all four wheels and a perfectly tuned chassis, it is in the hands of an inexperienced driver, somewhat a grenade. That's why I do not recommend that this firearm on the road be occupied by drivers with little experience. But those who have both mileage and powerful cars are two-sided cars. Quiet, adaptable, practically for both family and individual. For normal riding, work, fun. Well, that can be in two stages.
