It has been eight years since Toy Story 3 apparently ended the animated franchise with a deep story.
But the fans of the much loved films had an angry vision of the long-awaited pursuit in a 87-second Disney-Pixar teaser trailer launched overnight.
Cowboy Sheriff Woody returns with Buzz Lightyear's best friend and all their friends – plus an unexpected extra toy that really does not want to be there, the Daily Mail reports.
In fact, Forky does not even think he should play with him.
It's a plastic art project that young owner Bonnie created. . . and causes a disaster.
The enchanting trailer begins with happy toys holding their hands in a circle, while the camera rotates on each of them in turn with the backs of a blue sky and white clouds as Joni Mitchell sings both Parts, Now in the background.
The circle suddenly stops a Forky, who faces him, holding Woody's hand.
He shouts, "I do not belong here," and it drips when the toys bury behind Woody.
"I'm not a spork," the deeply conflicting utensils cry out as Woody says, "Hey, hey, somebody makes him look no better."
The fans immediately went to the social media to share their comments on the trailer, most of them being positive.
"It's only months, and you've already done our week," one said.
Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley said: "Like most people, we assumed that Toy Story 3 was the end of the story and it was the end of Woody's story with Andy Dar, just like in life, every end is a new beginning.
"Woody, now in a new room with new toys and a new baby, has been something I have not seen before. Questions about what would seem to have become the beginning of a entertainment story worth exploring."
The actors Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Joan Cusack return as Woody, Buzz and Jessie's voices, and comedian Tony Hale gives Forky's voice.
New Zealand fans will have to wait until June 27, 2019 to see Toy Story 4.
