The giants hire Farhan Zaidi as president of baseball operations

Giants have replaced general manager Bobby Evans – who was fired weeks ago – with Farhan Zaidi, the giants announced. Throughout the day, the word was that the giants had given Zaidi the job of president of baseball operations, but that he was talking about the offer. Since then he has decided to be responsible for the first time in his career.

Zaidi was previously Billy Beane's deputy general manager with A, and in the last four seasons he was the general manager of Dodgers, although he was reported to club president Andrew Friedman. Zaidi is now the boss.

What it will bring to the Giants is probably a change in approach. The old giant regime – while each baseball base has a "analysis" department – was certainly one of the oldest baseball groups. Zaidi comes from two organizations that are just as new schools as any other.

An interesting sub-story here is that Zaidi knows a lot about Dodgers, from staff to the way they evaluate players and much more. Now he deals with their biggest and longest rival.

The giants are in a strange position. They have not supported this group over the past two years. Now the following players are at least 30 years old and are locked in at least 2021: Buster Posey, Evan Longoria, Johnny Cueto, Brandon Crawford and Brandon Belt. Jeff Samardzija, 33, is blocked by 2020. Madison Bumgarner is also ready to hit the free agency after the next season. With too little on the farm road, it seems that the giants are on their last foot with this championship core.

With that and Zaidi's past in mind, I feel we'll see some creativity in a bit of rebuilding here. He is not the guy to go with a band-aid-on-broken-leg approach, as the Giant last time tried. Of course, Posey would never have traded, but could Zaidi gain some value and be able to clear his money by pulling some of the other names above?

She should have realized more quickly. Hot Shot is on us, with CC Sabathia re-signed with Yankees on Tuesday night.
