Chilean scientists create "photosynthetic skin" that regenerates tissues

[ad_1]

Unlike synthetic skins that are already used to treat injuries such as burns or traumas, this tissue is capable of producing oxygen in the affected area by stimulating light, thus allowing the regenerative process, as one of the project leaders explains engineer of molecular biotechnology Tomás Egaña.

When a wound, a heart attack or another condition affecting the blood vessels occurs, medical teams must avoid tissue death due to lack of oxygen. Lower oxygenation influences, for example, the survival of a tumor in radiotherapy.

"We created the first generation of photosynthetic materials that produce and release oxygen by stimulating light, thereby improving oxygenation of tissues," Egaña told a press conference Thursday to present the so-called Hulk project. German "Induction of hyperoxia in light conditions".
